Islamabad: Violent clashes erupted between police and protesters in Islamabad on Saturday, resulting in the tragic death of Constable Abdul Hameed Shah and injuries to more than a dozen others.

According to a police statement, Constable Abdul Hameed Shah, who was abducted and tortured by protesters, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital and embraced martyrdom.

Constable Shah, who was stationed with the Investigation Wing, had been deployed at Chungi No. 26 for law and order duties, a police official informed on Sunday.

Hailing from Abbottabad, Shah had served in the Islamabad police since 1988 and was just three months away from retirement.

The police vowed strict legal action against those responsible for the violence, with an official emphasizing that those protecting the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) are national heroes.

The attackers, reportedly affiliated with a political party, were condemned by the authorities. The police, while exercising restraint, made it clear that any further challenge to the state’s authority would not be tolerated.

The funeral prayer for Constable Abdul Hameed Shah will be offered today at 12:30 p.m. at Police Lines Headquarters.
