Conservation Strategy: CDA To Increase Fines For Water Wastage

Islamabad: As part of a conservation strategy to ensure wise use of the resource throughout this summer, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to increase the penalties for repeat offenders against water wastage up to Rs. 25,000.

The authority has highlighted that a lot of people in Islamabad squander water by washing their cars and letting it overflow into the streets, contributing to the city’s regular water scarcity, said CDA sources.

Although existing laws allow the civic agency to enforce a maximum fine of Rs 5,000 on anyone discovered wasting water, this punishment has previously been ineffective.

CDA sources stated that the authorities have intended to increase the fine for repeat offenders in order to tackle the problem because wealthy residents of the Federal capital easily pay the fine while still wasting this essential resource.

He claimed that the CDA has already stated that it will take strict legal action against individuals who waste water in order to ensure its judicious usage and protect against the severe scarcity.

The CDA official said that the authority would also put together special teams to send notices to capital city residents who are involved in water waste and to send challans for repeat offenders to the CDA magistrate for further necessary action.

He asked the city’s citizens to abide by CDA municipal ordinances and refrain from squandering clean drinking water, noting that the CDA has the power to impose fines for repeat offenders who continue to waste water despite being warned.

The official added that the conservation plan aims to promote sustainable water use and minimise water shortages in the capital.

Residents may contribute to ensuring the sustainable use of water in Islamabad by abiding by the rules and implementing water conservation measures, he added.
