Rawalpindi Reactivates Animal Transport Check Posts

News Desk

Islamabad: Authorities in Rawalpindi district have reactivated check posts at inter-district and inter-provincial entry points to curb the spread of the Congo virus, a deadly tick-borne disease.

The initiative is being carried out under the supervision of Director Rawalpindi Division Dr. Naveed Sahar and Dr. Arshad Latif Arshad, following directives from the Secretary Livestock Punjab.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), the check posts are spraying disinfectants on animals being transported, as a preventive measure against the spread of the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).

Dr. Arshad Latif warned that the Congo virus is a highly dangerous disease transmitted through ticks, affecting both animals and humans. He emphasized the importance of timely preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection.

Veterinary officers and para-veterinary staff have been mobilized across the district to raise public awareness about the disease. Awareness campaigns are ongoing, educating livestock handlers and the general public on how to take precautionary steps to protect both animals and people from the virus.
