COMSATS Awards 77 Medals, Over 2,300 Degrees

Islamabad: More than 2,300 graduates were awarded degrees and medals as COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) held its 47th and 48th Convocation ceremonies at the Jinnah Convention Center.

Executive Director COMSATS, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria, attended both events as the chief guest. CUI Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, Incharge Campus Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, deans, directors, faculty members, students and parents were also present.

During the 47th Convocation for Fall 2024, a total of 1,160 graduates—including 29 PhD scholars—received degrees, while 26 university medals were awarded. In the 48th Convocation for Spring 2025, 1,184 graduates, including 48 PhD scholars, were conferred degrees, along with 54 medals for academic excellence.

Addressing the ceremonies, Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar congratulated the graduates and underscored the need for Pakistani youth to equip themselves for Industry 5.0. Rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence, he noted, were reshaping professions globally, warning that those who fail to adapt risk becoming irrelevant. He said CUI is committed to producing entrepreneurs and job creators.

Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria highlighted Pakistan’s resilience as a nation and stressed that progress in science and technology is vital for socio-economic development and national sovereignty.

Reaffirming COMSATS’ mission, he said the organization remains focused on helping developing countries—especially in Asia—address development challenges through scientific innovation. He urged graduates to pursue entrepreneurship and introduce solutions that benefit society.

Providing campus updates, Incharge Campus Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar shared that scholarships worth PKR 80 million were awarded during Fall 2025. He said the campus currently hosts more than 12,500 students, including 400 PhD scholars, and has produced 1,759 W-category research publications this year, reflecting a strong research culture.

The ceremonies concluded with the formal award of degrees and medals, marking another milestone in CUI’s efforts to deliver quality education, foster innovation and prepare future leaders.
