Commissioner Pushes Authorities for Punctual Project Delivery

Rawalpindi: Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta chaired the biweekly Steering Committee meetings aimed at addressing issues in public-interest projects.
The detailed progress reports from relevant departments were discussed, with a strong focus on tackling traffic congestion. He proposed a signal-free corridor as a long-term solution to this pressing issue.
In collaboration with Station Commander Rawalpindi, Brigadier Ahmed Nawaz, Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta led a meeting dedicated to Urban Development Projects. Their primary emphasis was on ensuring the punctual completion of these vital initiatives.
He mandated all schools, hospitals, and institutions on Peshawar Road to arrange parking facilities, prohibiting parking on main roads to avoid public inconvenience. Strict actions were pledged against organizations failing to provide parking spaces.
To manage traffic, clearing service roads of encroachments was prioritized. Liaquat Ali Chatta directed the City Traffic Officer (CTO) to relocate the existing public transport stop from Kutchery Chowk to ensure smoother traffic flow.
Plans were made to discuss parking at the next meeting in Topi Rakh, utilizing available large parking spaces there and arranging shuttle services for citizens. Liaquat Ali Chatta also urged efforts to secure parking spaces in the Race Course area and sought cooperation from relevant offices.
Regarding development projects, NESPAK was tasked with proposing a 22-km signal-free corridor from Koral Chowk to Chongi No. 26. The Rawalpindi Ring Road project’s progress was noted, with efforts to expedite work by clearing the roadway of obstructions.
The Commissioner instructed prompt relocation of electric poles obstructing the Ring Road project. He emphasized expediting the Ring Road’s completion within the shortest possible time frame.
Dodacha Dam’s progress stood at 12 percent, with directives for WASA to finalize the water treatment plant route in collaboration with DHA. Additionally, PC-2 of the sewerage system for the Nullah Lai Project was submitted.
NESPAK is set to submit PC-1 for the Amaar Chowk Flyover on December 12. Also, proposals for Kutchery Chowk remodelling, ensuring a green belt presence, were discussed. Alternate routes for citizens during construction were promised.
The meeting stressed the need for timely completion of projects without compromising construction quality or funds utilization, ensuring optimal benefits for the public.
