Rawalpindi: Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Aamir Khattak, directed authorities on Tuesday to prevent the establishment of illegal cattle markets.

During a Divisional Coordination Committee meeting, he emphasized adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and thorough inspection of cattle markets.

Khattak instructed deputy commissioners to deploy assistant commissioners daily to address citizens’ complaints promptly and ensure no traffic congestion arises due to these markets.

Stringent measures will be taken against administrative officers allowing illegal cattle markets near residential areas, Khattak warned, urging the imposition of Section-144 and legal action against violators.

He also tasked price magistrates with curbing price hikes, particularly on essential food items, and ensuring fixed rates for Naan and Roti.

In the last 24 hours, 39 violations were reported in 812 raids, resulting in fines totaling Rs 132,500 and the arrest of three shopkeepers for overcharging.

Additionally, the Suthra Punjab program achieved zero waste in 389 out of 570 union councils across Rawalpindi Division, resolving 53 out of 62 sanitation complaints and promptly addressing issues like manholes and street lights.
