Environmental experts reported that Rahim Yar Khan recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 290, while Lahore stood at 262, ranking it the world’s third most polluted city today. In response, the Punjab government has issued alerts to relevant departments to improve air quality.
Residents and travelers faced difficulties due to the dense smog, with hospitals such as Nishtar and Civil Hospital noting a surge in patients suffering from cough, flu, fever, and respiratory issues. Health experts warned that polluted air poses serious risks, especially for asthma patients.
Family physician Dr. Abdul Samie advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity, ensure children follow safety measures while going to school, use masks, avoid open-air food, and refrain from consuming uncovered items.
He also recommended drinking clean or boiled water and juices and urged anyone experiencing fever, flu, eye irritation, or breathing difficulties to contact a doctor or nearest hospital immediately.
