Abbottabad: After a week of rain and snowfall, a severe cold wave has gripped Hazara Division, plunging temperatures to sub-zero levels across the region. Abbottabad recorded a critical low of -1°C, while the upper areas experienced even harsher conditions, with temperatures dropping to -4°C.

The ongoing snowfall has rendered the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad (MNJ) Road, particularly from Naran to Babusar Top, impassable for all kinds of vehicular traffic. Authorities have advised travelers to avoid unnecessary movement in these areas due to slippery road conditions and the risk of avalanches.

The extreme weather has exacerbated challenges for residents, especially in urban centers, where a combination of low gas pressure and high consumption has led to the implementation of a gas load management plan. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations are subject to two-day weekly closures and daily shutdowns lasting up to 11 hours.

However, the gas supply situation has slightly improved compared to previous years, allowing many residents to use gas heaters and ovens simultaneously, providing some relief during this frigid period.

According to the Meteorological Department, the cold spell is expected to persist in the coming days, with more snowfall and rain likely in the upper parts of Hazara Division, including Kaghan, Naran, and Galyat regions.

Meanwhile, district administrations are on high alert to address emergency situations and ensure the timely clearance of roads. Tourists heading to the snowy areas have been advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and carry necessary winter gear to avoid being stranded.
