CM Dismisses College Rape Allegations as Fabricated
News Desk
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has categorically dismissed allegations of a rape case involving a student at a private college in Lahore, describing the claims as entirely fabricated.
In a press conference, she revealed that after the story circulated widely on social media, a thorough investigation was conducted over several days, confirming that no such incident had occurred.
The Chief Minister explained that the girl’s mother had contacted her, and it was on her request that the issue was being addressed.
“The girl, who was falsely portrayed as a rape victim, has been hospitalized since October 2 due to an injury sustained at home,” she said.
“The under-treatment girl in the ICU was being misrepresented as a victim of rape.” The CM emphasized that the girl’s mother urged her to protect the honor of young girls, adding that no eyewitnesses or evidence supported the allegations.
The guard accused in the case was on leave and arrested in Sargodha, but the investigation confirmed no crime had taken place.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assured students that their safety was her top priority and urged them to trust their government.
She explained that the police had acted promptly when the report was received and that the search for the alleged victim was ongoing. She condemned the campaign surrounding the case as a deliberate attempt to mislead students and create unrest, linking it to political motives.
“The social media campaign was a tactic to sow chaos and save a dying political agenda,” she said, emphasizing that the fabricated story had no foundation. “As a mother and the Chief Executive of this province, it is my duty to safeguard the dignity and lives of our citizens. We will hold those responsible for this conspiracy accountable.”
The CM affirmed that the Punjab government would pursue the case, having reviewed all medical records and evidence. She criticized those behind the misleading campaign, drawing parallels to previous incidents of unrest.
Additionally, she pointed to another case where a child injured in a traffic accident in Gujarat was falsely portrayed as a victim of police violence, stressing that those responsible for such fabrications would face consequences.
Maryam Nawaz also accused the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government of using public resources to incite unrest in Punjab and thanked the people of the province for rejecting the call for protests.
She condemned the disruptions during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting and vowed to maintain law and order, promising decisive action against those spreading false information.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, and other key officials were also present at the press conference.
