Faisalabad: Agricultural experts have called for intensified efforts to promote climate-resilient agriculture as a critical strategy to combat the impacts of climate change and water scarcity, which continue to hinder Pakistan’s agrarian development.
They shared these views during the opening session of a four-week workshop on Finance, Administration Management, and e-Governance, organized by the Professional Training and Skill Development Center (PTSDC) at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF).
The workshop is a mandatory component for the promotion of officers from the Punjab Agriculture Department. Sixty-five officers from the Agriculture Research Wing are participating in the 30th batch of this ongoing training initiative.
On the instructions of UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, comprehensive arrangements were made to facilitate the officers attending the program.
Addressing the session, PTSDC Director Dr. Waqas Wakil emphasized that agriculture forms the backbone of the national economy. He underlined the importance of adopting modern agricultural techniques to meet the rising food demands of a growing population. He further stated that in an agrarian country like Pakistan, the agriculture sector plays a pivotal role in poverty alleviation.
He added that such capacity-building workshops not only enhance the skill set of departmental officers but also strengthen their ability to contribute effectively towards ensuring national food security. The PTSDC is currently offering over 250 short courses focused on agriculture, livestock, and rural development, he noted.
Dr. Nazar Hussain shared that the center has trained more than 11,000 individuals since its establishment, contributing significantly to human resource development in the agricultural sector.
Officials from the Agriculture Department also addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of sustainable practices in the face of climate challenges.
