Hanoi: Chinese cuisine is becoming increasingly popular among Vietnamese citizens, as seen at the International Culinary Culture Festival 2025 held in Hanoi last weekend, where the aroma of traditional dumplings drew crowds of curious visitors.

Ngo Thuy Trang, a senior university student, stood at the bustling stall enjoying a bowl of freshly made dumplings. She said Chinese food has already become a familiar part of her daily routine.

“I’ve always loved Chinese food. I like spicy, slightly oily dishes with soft textures,” she said. “They’re very delicious.”

Trang said she was first introduced to Chinese cuisine through social media, especially mukbang-style food-eating videos. Since then, she has regularly searched for Chinese-style dishes at restaurants in Hanoi, ordering delivery or dining out with friends.

She added that the diversity of Chinese cuisine, shaped by climate and regional culture, fascinates her, and she hopes to travel to China one day to experience its authentic flavours.

According to Wang Lihui, vice chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, the rising interest among young Vietnamese consumers signals strong market potential.

Wang noted that with Vietnam’s population approaching 100 million, the country offers a promising gateway for Chinese cuisine brands expanding overseas.

Several major Chinese food and beverage chains have already seen impressive growth in Vietnam. Super Hi International reported that Haidilao, the popular Chinese hotpot brand, generated around 43.6 million U.S. dollars in revenue in Vietnam during the first half of 2025—over ten percent of its global earnings.
