Beijing: China has unveiled draft guidelines aimed at enhancing the country’s data infrastructure, including upgrading its 5G network to the advanced 5G-A standard and promoting research and innovation in 6G technology.

According to the document released by the National Data Bureau, the guidelines outline measures to balance the deployment of international communication gateways across China’s eastern, central, and western regions.

The country also plans to expand international submarine and land cable information channels and establish a satellite internet system integrating space and ground facilities.

The guidelines, which are open for public consultation, propose facilitating the large-scale, low-cost, and secure free flow of data.

Industries and regions are encouraged to explore new technological infrastructure in areas such as blockchain and privacy-preserving computing to create an efficient and reliable data delivery environment for both centralized and decentralized transactions, as reported by CGTN.

China will also focus on optimizing its computing resources, accelerating the green development of general-purpose, intelligent, and supercomputing power, and advancing the coordinated deployment of these resources.

Efforts will include strengthening emerging network technologies, improving network billing methods, and reducing data transmission costs between eastern and western regions.

5G-A Network Highlights

The 5G-A network represents a significant leap over the current 5G technology, offering:

Peak data rates of 10 gigabits per second for downloads and 1 gigabit per second for uploads.

Millisecond-level latency.

Low-cost, energy-efficient connectivity, particularly for the Internet of Things (IoT).Cities like Beijing and Shanghai have already rolled out 5G-A services in select districts, showcasing the network’s enhanced capabilities in speed, latency, connection scale, and energy efficiency.

With these advancements, China aims to solidify its position as a global leader in cutting-edge telecommunications, while laying the groundwork for the future deployment of 6G technology.
