Faisalabad: Dr Sohail Farooq, a renowned physician, food nutritionist, and pediatrician from Faisalabad Medical University, highlighted the efficacy of chicken corn soup in alleviating coughs and colds among children aged one and above during the winter.

He suggested enhancing the taste and effectiveness of homemade soup by incorporating vegetables like carrots, spinach, and beetroot

Dr Farooq emphasized that common seasonal ailments such as flu, colds, coughs, runny noses, and sore throats are prevalent at the onset of winter and during smog-like conditions. These conditions tend to affect young children more severely but can be managed at home.

He recommended honey as a valuable remedy for healing and relief from coughs and sore throats. A mixture of one teaspoon of lemon juice and two teaspoons of honey, administered thrice a day, can rapidly alleviate seasonal ailments. Additionally, honey can be consumed by blending it with lukewarm milk.

Highlighting the benefits of lemon, Dr Farooq mentioned its efficacy in dry coughs and sore throats due to its vitamin C content, which bolsters children’s immunity, helping them ward off seasonal illnesses.
