Lahore: The skies over Lahore were once again filled with colourful kites on Friday as the centuries-old spring festival of Basant made a much-awaited return, drawing large crowds and enthusiastic participation from the public and celebrities alike.
The three-day festival is being celebrated across the provincial capital after the Punjab government lifted a ban that had remained in place for more than two decades, allowing the event to resume under strict regulations.
The revival of Basant sparked widespread excitement, with several showbiz stars sharing glimpses of their celebrations on social media, from pre-festival preparations to flying kites from rooftops.
Actor Saba Qamar, best known for her role in Muamla, shared on her Instagram story that she had managed to take out two days from her busy schedule to take part in the festivities.
Actor Imran Ashraf was also seen flying kites from a rooftop decorated in vibrant yellow, green and red — colours traditionally associated with Basant.
Veteran actor Noor Bukhari welcomed the decision to revive the festival and thanked authorities for restoring a cultural tradition long associated with Lahore.
Meanwhile, actor Hania Aamir highlighted the importance of celebrating indigenous traditions responsibly, stressing the need to balance festivity with public safety.
To ensure safe celebrations, local administrations enforced strict safety measures, including a ban on metallic and chemical-coated kite strings, designated kite-flying zones, and increased deployment of law enforcement personnel across the city during the festival.
