Celebrities Demand Justice as Violence Against Women Escalates
News Desk
Islamabad: The rising lawlessness in Pakistan has deeply unsettled its citizens, who now live in constant fear of harassment, violence, looting, or kidnapping, knowing that many criminals frequently evade justice.
While harassment has long been a widespread issue, incidents of rape and murder are now increasing. Perpetrators often escape accountability by paying substantial bribes in court.
Recently, a troubling incident occurred where a girl in an Abaya/Hijab was harassed by a man on a motorbike, and the assault was witnessed by his child.
Additionally, a 5-year-old girl was raped at Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore. Another incident involved a young couple being harassed in a crowd. The most egregious event was when a woman named Natasha, while intoxicated, drove her car into five people, resulting in their deaths.
Pakistani celebrities are increasingly concerned about the unsafe environment for women in their country.
They point out that, despite claims that women’s attire justifies harassment, even those wearing abayas are now being targeted. Celebrities are calling for stringent penalties for those who harass women in public spaces, workplaces, and recreational areas, arguing that severe measures are necessary to combat these behaviors.
The situation in India reflects similar issues, with harassment being widespread.
The recent case involving Dr Moumita Debnath has heightened concerns about women’s safety in India. Indian actor John Abraham has remarked on the lack of safety for both women and animals in the country.
Prominent figures such as Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana, Hrithik Roshan, and Sohana Khan have expressed their grief and solidarity in response to Dr. Debnath’s tragic case.
