Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is set to launch the operation of 30 electric buses on various routes in the federal capital to benefit residents on July 5 (Friday).

“The buses arrived in Islamabad last month and will soon be operational to alleviate the travel issues faced by residents of the twin cities,” official sources in the CDA told APP.

According to sources, the inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by senior dignitaries, CDA officials, and representatives from relevant departments. CDA Chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa is making significant efforts to enhance city facilities and beautify Islamabad using modern methods.

The buses will operate on two main routes: from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and from PIMS to Bari Imam. The first route will traverse G-11 Markaz, G-10 Markaz, G-9 Markaz, and G-8 Markaz, ending at PIMS. The second route will pass through G-7, G-6, Melody, Aabpara, Ataturk Road, Serena Hotel, Foreign Office, Radio Pakistan, and the Diplomatic Enclave, ending at Bari Imam.

Sources also indicated that more buses are planned for Islamabad, with 70 additional vehicles expected to arrive from Karachi. Following their manufacture, 60 more buses will be shipped from China to Islamabad. Ultimately, 130 buses will operate on 11 routes connecting the rural and urban areas of the federal capital.

Initially, the 30 buses will operate from the Convention Centre, where the CDA has installed a charging station with six charging points.

For the 70 buses arriving from Karachi, a facility has been established at the H-9 metro depot. Furthermore, the CDA is constructing bus depots at Zero Point, I-9, and Taramri.
