Caretaker PM Will Represent Pak At 78th UNGA Session

United Nations: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar will represent Pakistan at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 22 – the first interim prime minister to do so.

The Prime Minister arrived in New York on Monday afternoon to lead Pakistan’s delegation at the GA, with nearly 150 world leaders set to attend the annual event.

In his address, Prime Minister Kakar is anticipated to present Pakistan’s viewpoint on a number of important regional and global topics, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Anwaar ul Haq will also elaborate on the important steps his caretaker administration has taken to support the nation’s economic recovery, and efforts to attract both domestic and foreign investment.

The United Nations will also convene the sustainable development goals (SDG) summit in New York on September 18-19, on the sidelines of the Assembly session.

Ambassador Munir Akram said that PM Kakar will also participate in the SDG summit and will speak about the mobilisation of financing for SDGs.

Kakar will also give a keynote at another summit on financing for development, where he will talk about how to mobilise private sector finance for development, the Pakistani Envoy added.

Moreover, the PM will hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from various countries as well as with the heads of international organizations, philanthropic organizations and corporate leaders. He also has a number of media engagements.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided not to attend this year’s session. Instead, his Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, will address the Assembly on September 26.

For the high-level debate of the Assembly from September 19 to 26, there are extensive security measures in place inside and outside the UN complex.
