Islamabad: Pakistani women cricketers are feeling confident and optimistic as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) starting October 3.

Players Touba Hasan, Najiha Alvi, and Tasmia Rabab shared their thoughts on the benefits gained from the fitness camp in Lahore, noting that the conditions in Multan are similar to those in Dubai. “We gained significantly from the Lahore fitness camp. Our group is challenging, but we’re confident in our abilities to perform well in the World Cup,” said Touba.

Najiha echoed her teammate’s sentiments, pointing out the minimal differences between the two locations. “Preparations are going smoothly, and I’ve learned valuable skills in wicket-keeping,” she added.

Tasmia, who was recently invited to the national team camp, expressed her belief in Pakistan’s readiness for the tournament. “We’ve faced stiff competition before, but our preparations have us well-equipped to take on the best teams,” she stated.

The tournament will feature 150 of the world’s most exciting players, with ten teams competing in 23 matches to determine the world champions. The opening match will see Bangladesh face debutants Scotland on October 3, held at two premier cricket venues: Sharjah Cricket Stadium and Dubai International Stadium.

In Group A, the highly anticipated clash between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will serve as a rematch of the recent Asia Cup semi-final, which Sri Lanka won. The formidable New Zealand side, currently ranked third in the world, completes this competitive pool.

Group B features South Africa, who will aim to challenge for the title, with their clash against England scheduled for October 7.

Only the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals on October 17 and 18, with the final set to take place on October 20 in Dubai, promising an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
