Karachi: With Eid-ul-Adha approaching, the Northern Bypass cattle market in Karachi has become a hub of activity, particularly in the camel section, where more than 5,000 camels have arrived, drawing in thousands of buyers and onlookers.

Traders have brought camels from various regions of Sindh and Punjab, showcasing a wide range of breeds that are turning heads due to their size, color, and majestic appearance. Popular breeds such as Koh-e-Murree, Laari, Dachi, and the rare black camels are in high demand.

According to market vendors, prices for these “ships of the desert” range from Rs500,000 to as high as Rs3 million, depending on the animal’s breed, size, and physical condition.

Despite the steep prices, camel stalls remain a major attraction, with many families visiting not just to buy but also to admire the towering animals—an essential part of the festive tradition for many.

With the number of camels continuing to rise in the lead-up to Eid, traders expect a further surge in footfall and sales in the coming days.
