United Against Injustice: British Muslims Stand With Gaza, Denounce Israeli Bombardment

London: In a powerful display of solidarity, British Muslims came out in force in Bradford, Manchester, and London in alliance with Palestine to voice their condemnation of the relentless and indiscriminate bombardment of the Gaza Strip by Israel, resulting in over 7,000 fatalities and 14,000 injuries among men, women, and children.

The heaviest toll is borne by innocent children in what is increasingly labeled a ‘genocide’ carried out by Israel. Israel has thus far arrogantly ignored all calls for a humanitarian ceasefire.  The UN General Assembly late on Friday overwhelmingly called for an “immediate, durable, and sustainable humanitarian truce” and unhindered aid access to the besieged Gaza Strip.

The motion drafted by Jordan, though not binding, carries political weight, reflecting the degree to which the US and Israel are isolated. It was passed late on Friday with 120 votes in favour, while 45 abstained and 14, including Israel and the US, voted against. Israel has thus far rejected the calls for a ceasefire and, supported by America, has pledged to carry on with its air and ground offensive to topple the Hamas government in Gaza. This, it says, is to prevent 7th October-like attacks in the future.

An unprecedented catastrophe is unfolding in Gaza with a shortage of food, water, and medical care.

The Bradford demonstration for peace was led by the Bradford Council for Mosques in front of the Bradford City Hall that was addressed by senior Imams representing different Islamic denominations. Muslims and non-Muslims joined to condemn the relentless Israeli atrocities.
