Islamabad: The initial winter rains are expected to have a positive impact on both major and minor Rabi crops, fruit orchards, and vegetable farms, said experts while reacting on the first winter rains on Rabi crops in parts of Pakistan.
These rains are particularly beneficial for wheat cultivation in rain-fed agriculture regions, as they provide ample water for preparing the land and promoting healthy seed germination.
Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Chairman Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ali said that these rains will increase local wheat output for the season, reduce environmental pollution, and have positive effects on human health.
In addition to wheat, the rains are expected to benefit oilseeds like mustard and canola, the agriculture expert added.
The Potohar region and other rain-fed areas across the country are likely to experience positive impacts on wheat cultivation, benefiting small-scale farmers and encouraging them to use approved seed varieties.
The government has introduced incentives for oilseed cultivation to reduce reliance on imported edible oil, and these rains are expected to positively affect oilseed crops like canola and mustard.
The rains are seen as a boon for agriculture, particularly for wheat and oilseed crops, with potential benefits for farmers and the country’s agricultural sector, the PARC chief maintained.
