Islamabad: The photographic exhibition “Blacks, Whites & Greys” by acclaimed photographer and writer Muhammad Azhar Hafeez opened at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) on Wednesday, drawing art enthusiasts with its exquisite collection of black-and-white photographs.
The exhibition presents a stunning array of images that capture the subtle nuances of the human experience. It embodies the timeless adage, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” showcasing a remarkable collection of photographs that vividly portray the diverse landscapes of Pakistan and the everyday lives of its people.
Through his lens, Hafeez takes viewers on a visual journey, celebrating the rich beauty found in the faces and breathtaking sceneries across the nation. The exhibition has garnered significant attention from art lovers, with many praising Hafeez’s ability to capture the essence of life through black-and-white photography.
Renowned filmmaker and journalist Wajahat Malik remarked that the exhibition is more than just a display; it is an invitation to experience the world through a new lens, where simplicity meets depth, and every shade tells a story.
The exhibition is expected to attract not only art enthusiasts but also photographers and literature lovers, offering them an enriching cultural experience.
In addition to the exhibition, Hafeez also launched his latest books, including BilaUnwaan 1 & 2, Photographer, and Laylpurya. Many notable speakers shared their thoughts on Hafeez’s work and books.
Artist and writer Maria Qureshi expressed her admiration for Hafeez’s work, highlighting the profound impact of his literary contributions. “He has depicted universal emotions through his writings, offering readers a deep connection to the human experience. His exceptional work, particularly in the form of articles, showcases a diverse range—from the mystical to the entertaining,” Qureshi stated.
Senior journalist Mohsin Raza also praised Hafeez’s writings, noting that his stories resonate with everyone. “While reading his stories, it feels as though each one belongs to common individuals like us. He has beautifully depicted the emotions of the everyday person,” Raza said.
Spanning a career of over three decades, Hafeez’s work captures the raw contrasts of life, making this exhibition and book launch a significant milestone in his artistic journey.
Each photograph in this collection is a testament to Hafeez’s exceptional ability to convey the profound essence of Pakistan’s natural and cultural heritage. His work not only showcases the stunning diversity of the country but also evokes a deep sense of pride in the abundant blessings bestowed upon our homeland.
The “Blacks, Whites & Greys” exhibition will remain open to the public until September 11.
Born in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad) in 1971, Hafeez has built a distinguished career in visual arts, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the National College of Arts, Lahore, and an M.Phil in Media Studies from Riphah International University, Islamabad.
Over the years, he has developed a unique voice in monochromatic photography, with 12 solo exhibitions and four critically acclaimed books to his name.
