Islamabad: As Islamabad’s culinary landscape continues to evolve with the arrival of international chains and trendy fusion cuisines, one dish continues to rule hearts — ‘biryani’.

The aromatic, spice-infused rice dish remains a timeless favorite across the capital, uniting citizens from all walks of life through its unmistakable aroma and comforting taste.

Whether it’s a roadside stall in Aabpara or a chic restaurant in Blue Area, the unmistakable scent of steaming biryani drifts through markets and food streets, calling out to loyal fans and curious foodies alike. Despite changing tastes, biryani continues to hold its throne as one of Islamabad’s most beloved and enduring dishes.

From Al-Naz Biryani in Sector G-6 and Chaman ‘Biryani’ in Blue Area to Biryani Hut in Jinnah Super and Karachi Biryani House in Bani Gala, the capital’s food map is dotted with popular spots that serve this quintessential comfort food.

In F-10, Hot n Chilli Chilman ‘Biryani’ draws long queues, especially at lunchtime, as workers and students rush to savor a plate of their favorite meal.

For many vendors, ‘biryani’ is not just food — it’s a livelihood. Aqeel, who has been running his ‘biryani’ stall in G-6 for more than a decade, says the dish’s popularity never wanes.

“The demand for biryani exists in all four seasons — it rarely dips, no matter the weather,” he shared with APP. “It’s a profitable business throughout the year, and I strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to start their own venture.”

Customers, too, share a deep emotional connection with the dish. Maryam, a loyal biryani enthusiast, smiled as she admitted, “I can eat biryani every single day if it were provided to me — without complaint.”

For many in the capital, biryani is more than a meal — it’s an experience. Zarmina, a university student, described how the dish has become a staple at every occasion.

“Whether it’s a family dinner or an office lunch, biryani is always on the menu,” she said. “The moment the lid is lifted and the aroma spreads — that’s when everyone’s excitement peaks. You can never go wrong with biryani!”

Culinary experts say the dish’s enduring charm lies in its balance of flavors, aroma, and cultural identity. Food writer Amna believes that biryani connects people to their heritage.

“It’s not just food — it’s a story of tradition and taste passed down through generations,” she explained. “Every grain of rice carries a bit of history and emotion.”

According to food delivery platforms, biryani remains the most ordered dish in Islamabad, especially during weekends, holidays, and festive seasons. Variations such as chicken, beef, mutton, and even vegetable biryani are keeping the tradition alive while catering to modern preferences.

In a city where dining options continue to expand, biryani stands tall as a symbol of shared joy and culinary pride — a flavorful reminder that some traditions are simply too delicious to fade away.
