Berlin: US President Joe Biden called on NATO allies to maintain their support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia as he began a farewell visit to Germany on Friday, just weeks ahead of US elections.
Speaking in Berlin, Biden emphasized the importance of sustaining Western assistance for Ukraine, which is approaching its third winter at war and facing battlefield setbacks in the east.
Concerns are growing among Kyiv and its allies about a possible return of Donald Trump to the White House, which could lead to a reduction in US military aid.
“We must sustain our support … until Ukraine wins a just and sustainable peace,” Biden said, warning that a challenging winter lies ahead.
“We cannot let up.”
Later in the day, Biden was scheduled to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for further discussions on the ongoing conflict and NATO’s role.
