Beyond Cricket: Sana, Hafeez Cast Votes in Elections 2024

Islamabad: As Pakistan conducts its general elections 2024, notable cricketers such as Shahid Afridi, Mohammed Hafeez, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, and Sana Mir took to their social media accounts to highlight their participation in the elections.

Both former and current Pakistani cricketers exercised their voting rights in their respective constituencies, sharing images of their inked thumbs to inspire others to fulfill their civic duty in selecting the country’s leader for the next five years.

Mohammad Hafeez, for instance, used his platform, including Twitter, to encourage people to vote for a better Pakistan.

Remember, Pakistan is currently in the midst of its general elections, with over 128.5 million individuals exercising their democratic right to choose representatives for national and provincial assemblies across 855 constituencies in the world’s 5th-largest democracy.

The 2024 elections have exceeded the benchmarks set by their 2018 counterparts in various dimensions. This includes an unprecedented budget allocation of Rs48 billion, a substantial increase in voter turnout, surpassing 50 percent of the total population, an unparalleled ratio of independent candidates totaling nearly 18,000, and a substantial amount of paper required for printing 260 million ballots.

Nationwide suspension of mobile and internet services is in effect due to the prevailing security situation. Leading political parties, including the PPP and PTI, have formally appealed to the commission for the prompt restoration of these services.

The completion of election results is anticipated a few hours past midnight, with the comprehensive compilation likely to be finalized in the early hours of Friday, facilitated by the ECP’s Result Management System.
