Islamabad: The 17th martyrdom anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto is being observed today with profound respect and reverence across Pakistan.
Arrangements for the main gathering at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh in Sindh have been finalized, with strict security measures in place.
Prominent leaders from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), including former President Asif Ali Zardari and party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, are set to address the gathering, paying tribute to the legacy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
Supporters from across the country have been arriving at the venue, and a large crowd had already gathered by the time of this report.
Bhutto, tragically assassinated in 2007 after addressing a historic rally at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi, was shot while responding to chants from supporters, followed by a suicide bombing that shook the nation.
Her untimely death deprived Pakistan of one of its most beloved and charismatic leaders.
In a message, President Asif Ali Zardari praised Benazir Bhutto’s unmatched courage and lasting vision. He described her as a trailblazer who advocated for democracy, justice, and equal rights for all citizens, leaving an enduring legacy on Pakistan’s political landscape.
Zardari reflected on her dream of a Pakistan where justice prevailed, women were empowered, and every citizen, regardless of class or creed, enjoyed equal rights.
Recalling her iconic words, “Democracy is the best revenge,” he emphasized that her belief in the power of the people continues to serve as a guiding light for the nation.
President Zardari urged the nation to honor her sacrifice by upholding her vision of a peaceful, progressive, and democratic Pakistan.
“Let us not only mourn her loss but commit to carrying forward her enduring legacy,” Zardari stated, reaffirming his commitment to advancing her mission.
