Barcelona: Robert Lewandowski marked a milestone in his career by scoring his 100th Champions League goal as Barcelona triumphed 3-0 over Brest, climbing to second in their group standings.
The veteran striker netted a penalty in the 10th minute to give Barcelona the lead and bring up his century, becoming only the third player to reach the 100-goal mark in the competition.
He joins Lionel Messi (129 goals) and Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) as the only players to achieve this feat. Lewandowski doubled his tally later in the match, securing his 101st goal to seal the victory after Dani Olmo had added a second for the Catalans.
Barcelona were quick off the mark when Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot fouled Lewandowski inside the box, allowing the striker to convert from the penalty spot. The match saw a dominant performance from the home side, despite missing teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, who is recovering from an ankle injury.
Although Barcelona struggled to break down Brest in the first half, Fermin Lopez came close with a diving header, forcing Bizot into a fine save.
The French side had a brief moment of hope when Mathias Pereira Lage’s strike was ruled offside, before Olmo’s goal in the 66th minute made it 2-0. Lewandowski then capped the win with a clinical finish to make it 3-0.
Despite the defeat, Brest had previously enjoyed a solid run in the group stages and remain in contention for a play-off spot. Barcelona, however, will look to maintain their momentum as they aim for a direct spot in the Champions League knockout rounds.
Coach Hansi Flick’s side now face Borussia Dortmund in their next fixture, before visiting Benfica and hosting Atalanta, as they look to continue their strong campaign in Europe.
