Bangladesh Set 208-Run Target for West Indies in First ODI

News Desk

Dhaka: Bangladesh were bowled out for 207 runs in 49.4 overs, setting a 208-run target for West Indies in the opening One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

The Dhaka pitch offered uneven bounce and significant turn, making run-scoring difficult throughout the innings. Bangladesh got off to a poor start after losing both openers early. Saif Hassan (3) was trapped lbw by Romario Shepherd in the very first over, while Soumya Sarkar (4) fell to Jayden Seales soon after, leaving the hosts struggling at 8-2.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (32) and Towhid Hridoy (51) steadied the innings with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket, but both fell at crucial stages. Hridoy’s fighting half-century off 90 balls ended when he was dismissed by Justin Greaves, reducing Bangladesh to 115-4.

Debutant Mahidul Islam Ankon contributed a vital 46 runs before being bowled by Roston Chase in the 46th over. However, the lower order failed to capitalize, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17) and Nurul Hasan (9) departing cheaply.

Rishad Hossain provided a brief late flourish, scoring 26 runs with two sixes before Seales removed him with a pinpoint yorker in the 49th over. The tail offered little resistance as Bangladesh were dismissed just short of completing their 50 overs.

For the West Indies, Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Roston Chase and Justin Greaves claimed two each. Romario Shepherd and Khary Pierre also picked up a wicket apiece, maintaining tight lines throughout.

West Indies will now need 208 runs to win on a pitch that has proved challenging for batters.
