Bahawalpur University Bans Lecturer Accused of Harassing Student

Bahawalpur: A visiting lecturer at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) has been accused of sexually harassing a female student in exchange for academic favours, triggering prompt action by university authorities and local police.
The accused, affiliated with the Department of Software Engineering, has been banned from entering the university campus as the administration begins a formal investigation. According to an official notification, the university’s Anti-Harassment Committee has launched a probe and pledged to proceed strictly under institutional rules and relevant laws.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered at the Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Police Station. In her written complaint, the student alleged that the lecturer intentionally failed her in an exam and later made inappropriate demands, suggesting she visit him at his residence in return for a passing grade.
The student further claimed that upon visiting his house, she was molested and harassed. When she refused to comply with his demands, the lecturer allegedly asked her to pay Rs50,000 to clear the exam.
Law enforcement officials have assured that a fair and transparent inquiry will be conducted, with all legal angles thoroughly examined to ensure justice. Meanwhile, university officials have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment on campus, stressing a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind.
Authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
