Peshawar: Babar Saleem Swati, the nominee of the Sunni Itteha Council (SIC), secured a resounding victory on Thursday as he was elected as the 16th Speaker of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
Swati garnered an impressive 89 votes out of a total of 106, affirming strong support from the assembly members.
In contrast, the Pakistan People’s Party’s candidate, Ehsanullah, received a mere 17 votes, highlighting a significant disparity in the level of support between the two contenders. This decisive outcome solidifies Swati’s position as the new Speaker, marking a notable development in the political landscape of the region.
