Islamabad: Pakistan captain Babar Azam made cricketing history on Sunday by becoming the highest fifty-scorer in men’s Twenty20 Internationals, overtaking India great Virat Kohli’s long-standing record.

The 31-year-old achieved the milestone during Pakistan’s third T20I against Australia at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, scoring an unbeaten 50 off 36 balls, including three fours and a six.

This innings marked Babar’s 39th half-century in men’s T20Is, surpassing Kohli, who had amassed 38 fifties before retiring from international cricket last year following India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup triumph.

Former India captain Rohit Sharma ranks third on the all-time list with 37 T20I fifties, followed by Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan with 31. Australia’s David Warner completes the top five with 29 half-centuries.

Babar’s record further cements his status as one of the most consistent and prolific batters in the shortest format of the game.
