Islamabad: Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s focal person on polio, called on all sectors of society to contribute to eliminating the poliovirus from the country.

Speaking to a PTV news channel, she announced the commencement of an anti-polio campaign in forty-nine selected districts, aiming to vaccinate over 9.5 million children under five years of age.

Farooq emphasized the importance of parental cooperation with polio teams visiting homes.

She noted that the campaign covers sixteen districts in Balochistan, eleven in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, sixteen in Sindh, and six in Punjab, with a specific door-to-door approach planned for certain Union Councils in Islamabad.

Emphasizing the government’s efforts, she highlighted the deployment of vaccination teams to areas affected by the virus, urging guardians and parents to welcome these health workers despite challenging heatwave conditions.

Responding to inquiries, Farooq mentioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s active involvement in addressing the issue, including high-level meetings with chief ministers from all provinces.

She outlined plans for another nationwide campaign of similar scale within the next two months, underscoring the government’s commitment to supporting and securing polio workers.
