Awam Express Makes Historic Return to Sohawa After 17 Years

Islamabad: Minister of State for Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani officially inaugurated the new stop of the Awam Express at Sohawa Railway Station on Sunday, aiming to enhance travel convenience for the local community.
The Awam Express, which operates between Karachi and Peshawar, will now make regular stops at Sohawa Station in both directions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bilal Kayani described the new stop as a “gift for the people of Sohawa” and expressed his happiness over the revival of activity at the station after a 17-year hiatus. He congratulated the local residents on the restoration of railway services.
Following the Sohawa event, the minister visited Jhelum Railway Station, where he inaugurated a new stop for the Rehman Baba Express, another train running the Karachi-Peshawar route. This train will also halt at Jhelum Station in both directions, further improving connectivity for the region.
Local residents warmly welcomed the minister at both stations, expressing gratitude for the reinstated train stops.
Addressing the media at Jhelum Station, Bilal Kayani reiterated the government’s commitment to upgrading railway facilities in smaller cities, including Jhelum and Sohawa. He also directed the Divisional Superintendent of Rawalpindi to ensure all necessary measures are taken to facilitate passengers at these newly reinstated stops.
