Aseefa Bhutto Pays Tribute to Martyrs of Karsaz

News Desk

Karachi: First Lady of Pakistan and Member of the National Assembly Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Friday paid glowing tribute to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy on its 18th anniversary, saying the site of Karsaz on Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal remains a blood-stained witness to Pakistan’s democratic struggle.

She said that on this ground, democracy was ambushed and attacked by cowardly enemies, yet the march toward democratic ideals could not be halted.

Recalling the events of October 18, 2007, Aseefa said the historic procession that began from Karachi Airport under the leadership of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto became a defining moment in the nation’s history. “The Daughter of the East was targeted that day, but her loyal companions laid down their lives to shield her,” she said.

Aseefa noted that when the first line of Jiyalas embraced martyrdom, the second line immediately stepped forward to defend their leader, and one by one, over 180 workers sacrificed their lives. Such immortal tales of courage and devotion, she added, continue to inspire democratic movements across the world.

Paying rich tribute to the martyrs, Aseefa said:

“The martyrs of Karsaz did not fall in vain; they planted the seeds of courage that continue to bloom in every struggle for democracy. Their blood did not darken our path — it illuminated it. Until every voice in Pakistan is free and every citizen stands equal, we will march forward in their name.”

Earlier on the anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid a heartfelt tribute to his father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, acknowledging his pivotal contributions to Pakistan’s foreign policy, democracy, and national progress.

In a statement on the anniversary, Bilawal highlighted Bhutto’s groundbreaking foreign policy, which earned Pakistan respect in the Muslim world and the global arena. He also lauded his father as the nation’s first directly elected Prime Minister, a leader who united a divided country, uplifted its people, and set Pakistan on a trajectory of growth and prosperity.

Bilawal emphasized that Bhutto’s leadership empowered the working class, ensuring their rights and securing their place in the nation’s development. Additionally, he credited Bhutto with laying the foundation for Pakistan’s nuclear program, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.

“Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto continues to live on in the hearts of the people,” Bilawal concluded.
