Arshad Nadeem Wins Gold, Receives Commendations from President, PM

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended their heartfelt congratulations to javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem on his remarkable achievement at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won the gold medal, ending Pakistan’s 32-year wait for an Olympic medal.

Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold in the men’s javelin, surpassing the defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India, and set a new Olympic record with a stunning throw of 92.97 meters.

In their statements, both leaders praised Nadeem’s achievement. President Zardari described Nadeem as a source of national pride, emphasizing that his victory and record-breaking performance were significant for the nation.

“You are a pride of the whole nation. Your victory represents the triumph of Pakistan. Your extraordinary Olympic record is a remarkable achievement, and you have made us all proud,” Zardari said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded Nadeem’s performance, calling it a historic moment for Pakistan. He expressed his admiration for Nadeem’s efforts and dedication, highlighting the significance of his achievement.

“Bravo, Arshad! You’ve made history as Pakistan’s first Olympic men’s javelin champion and brought home a historic gold medal from Paris 2024. Your accomplishment has made the entire nation proud,” Sharif wrote on his X timeline.

The prime minister further noted that Nadeem’s two over-90-meter throws, without any fouls, showcased his exceptional skill and provided a “beautiful gift” to the nation. He praised Nadeem’s hard work and that of his family, acknowledging their role in this success after decades of waiting.

Sharif recalled his previous meeting with Nadeem, where he noted Nadeem’s enthusiasm to bring honor to his country. “The whole nation is grateful to Allah Almighty for this tremendous success. Arshad Nadeem’s hard work, dedication, and achievement serve as a role model for young athletes,” Sharif commented.

The prime minister, who watched Nadeem’s performance live, expressed his pride and satisfaction, recalling how the Punjab Youth Festival initiative he started as Punjab Chief Minister has contributed to discovering such talent. “I am proud to have played a part in discovering a great talent like Arshad Nadeem,” he concluded.
