Argentina Triumphs in Copa America Final Against Colombia

Ankara: Argentina secured victory in the 2024 Copa America after defeating Colombia 1-0 in extra time at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Monday.

The highly anticipated final, organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) in the United States, faced delays of approximately 1.5 hours due to security issues arising from unauthorized fan entries without tickets.

In a fiercely contested match, Argentina, known for their resilience with only two defeats in their last 61 matches, faced off against Colombia, who were unbeaten in 28 matches prior to the final. The deadlock was broken in the 112th minute by Lautaro Martinez’s decisive goal.

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, who sustained a back injury in the 64th minute, was substituted by Nicolas Gonzalez in the 66th minute, adding to the match’s tension and drama.

With this triumph, Argentina clinched their record-extending 16th Copa America title, cementing their status as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

Argentina’s previous Copa America victories came in 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991, 1993, and most recently in 2021.

The halftime entertainment featured a performance by renowned Colombian singer Shakira, adding cultural flair to the event.
