Anti-Smog Drive: 75 Industrial Units Face Closure, Heavy Fines Levied”

Dera Ghazi Khan:District administrations took action against 75 industrial units and sealed 23 brick kilns, besides impounding 1247 vehicles in violation of smog prevention guidelines.

Dera Ghazi Khan division Commissioner Dr Nasir Mahmood Bashir said on Friday that district administrations of DG Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur and Muzaffargarh have intensified anti-smog operations during the last ten days and imposed a fine of Rs 900,000 on violators.

Presiding over a meeting, the Commissioner was informed about anti-smog operations conducted from November 1 to 10. The officials said that 152 brick kilns were inspected, and out of the total 725 brick kilns, 705 had been shifted to environment-friendly zig-zag technology.

A total of 99 industrial units were inspected in the division and 52 were sealed, while cases were registered against five units. A total of 4222 vehicles were inspectedand a sum of over Rs 1.2 million was imposed as a fine on smoke-emitting vehicles. Over 400 awareness sessions were also conducted for road users.

Dr Nasir stated that the anti-smog directives of the provincial government would be enforced in letter and spirit and advised the drivers to drive vehicles carefully.

He further pleaded that environmental pollution like smog has reduced visibility and enhanced the risk of accidents.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Captain (retired) Sajjad Hassan Khan remarked that abiding by the law is a collective responsibility and any violation would result in a penalty.
