Amazon Warns 300 Million Users of Surge in Holiday Scams
News Desk
Islamabad: E-commerce giant Amazon has issued an urgent warning to its more than 300 million users about a rising wave of sophisticated impersonation scams, particularly during the Black Friday shopping season.
The company cautioned that cybercriminals are targeting users to steal sensitive personal, banking, and Amazon account information. Scammers are using tactics such as fake delivery or account issue notifications, too-good-to-be-true deals advertised via third-party ads, and unsolicited tech support calls.
Amazon officials said a key red flag is any communication received through unofficial channels requesting payment information or account credentials.

The warning comes amid alarming data from cybersecurity firms. A FortiGuard Labs report revealed a pre-holiday surge in fraudulent activity, identifying over 18,000 holiday-themed domains in recent months, with at least 750 confirmed as malicious.
Similarly, NordVPN reported a 232% increase in fake Amazon websites in October alone, designed to deceive hurried shoppers.
Experts note that these threats are evolving rapidly. To stay protected, Amazon urged customers to rely only on the official website for tracking orders, refunds, and customer service. The company also strongly recommended enabling two-factor authentication and using strong passwords.
Authorities stressed that Amazon will never ask for payment information over the phone or send emails requesting users to verify their credentials.
