Lahore: The alarming rise in cases of hepatitis B and C in Pakistan has raised urgent concerns among health experts, prompting calls for swift action to combat the growing epidemic. Experts stress the need for public awareness campaigns on hepatitis symptoms, H pylori treatment, and preventive measures to curb the spread of these diseases.

These remarks were made by Professor Dr Al-Fareed Zafar, Principal of Ameer Uddin Medical College (AMC) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH), at the inauguration of a Hepatitis B, C, and H. pylori screening campaign organized by the Blood Donation Society of AMC on Saturday.

Dr Zafar emphasized the importance of medical professionals, particularly doctors and medical students, as critical assets in tackling the health crisis.

“It is essential for healthcare workers to remain healthy, as they are directly responsible for patient care. Medical staff should undergo blood screening twice a year to prevent the spread of infections,” he stated.

He also called for greater government action and urged charitable organizations to play an active role in raising awareness.

“The rising prevalence of hepatitis and other diseases reflects a lack of awareness. Educating the public about hygiene and health practices is key to addressing this growing concern,” Dr Zafar added.

The screening campaign, aimed at promoting early diagnosis and prevention, also encouraged students to contribute to the cause by spreading awareness about healthy living practices.
