AIOU Organises First Alumni Homecoming

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) recently hosted a vibrant alumni homecoming ceremony and dinner, fostering connections among former students.
The event welcomed distinguished guests, including Urdu poet Iftikhar Arif, columnist Muhammad Izhar ul Haq, Director General of the Pakistan Institute of Education Dr Shahid Soroya, Chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Literature Dr Najeeba Arif, and Vice-Chancellor of the Health Service Academy Dr Shahzad Ali Khan.
Alumni attendees included notable figures such as Lt. Gen. Asif Mumtaz Sukhera, Dr Rashid Hameed, renowned plastic surgeon Dr Afzal Bashir, Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, Dr Zahid Majeed, and Dr Muhammad Ajmal Chaudhry, among others.
The Directorate of Student Advisory and Counseling Services (DSA&CS) at AIOU orchestrated this gathering, receiving commendation from the Vice Chancellor, alumni, and participants for their meticulous arrangements.
The alumni expressed gratitude to Dr Nasir Mahmood, the Vice Chancellor of AIOU, for facilitating the reunion and reflecting on their shared experiences at the university. They emphasized the significant role AIOU has played in shaping their lives, considering themselves integral members of the AIOU family.
Additionally, the alumni pledged to actively contribute to the university’s continued growth and advancement. Dr Nasir Mahmood highlighted AIOU’s milestone of completing 50 years and acknowledged the invaluable contribution of its alumni, numbering around 5 million graduates, to the nation’s development.
Iftikhar Arif, reflecting on his association with AIOU, commended the institution’s educational services and recited some of his poetic works during the event.
Muhammad Izhar ul Haq expressed admiration for the alumni’s ability to reconnect with their alma mater, contrasting it with his own experience at Dhaka University.
The homecoming ceremony served as a platform for alumni to reminisce, celebrate shared accomplishments, and reaffirm their commitment to the continued success of AIOU.
