Islamabad: The Association of former Inspector Generals of Police (AFIGP) adopted a resolution urging National Police Bureau (NPB) to promote structural and operational changes in law enforcement and set up independent channels for civilian policing supervision and grievance redressal in Islamabad.
The Association acknowledged that progressive reforms and development of oversight mechanisms for policing is crucial in Islamabad, and that these reforms are essential for strengthening the rule of law and regaining public trust in the police force. These remarks were made at an executive committee meeting held on Wednesday.
The recent order from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requiring the adoption of reform criteria outlined in the Police Order, 2002 within thirty days was also applauded during the conference.
The AFIGP appreciated that the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police, chief commissioner, federal government, and the ministry of the interior have made progress in implementing the directive.
The decision also urged the ICT police and all other parties to finish executing the High Court’s orders and the Police Order 2002’s requirements in a significant and efficient manner within thirty days. This includes the establishment of the Public Safety Commission and Complaints Authority in Islamabad.
