Activists Call for Stronger Child Protection Laws on Children’s Day

Islamabad: Children’s rights activists are urging for heightened awareness and the effective implementation of child protection laws to safeguard vulnerable children and promote their overall well-being. They stress the need for collective efforts to create a safe and nurturing environment where all children can thrive.
In an exclusive interview on a private news channel for World Children’s Rights Day, renowned child rights activist Syed Miqdad Mehdi highlighted the pivotal role of parents in shaping their children’s futures.
He encouraged parents to adopt improved parenting practices that foster a supportive environment, offer guidance, and help children achieve their full potential.
Mehdi also emphasized that World Children’s Day serves not only to celebrate global progress in improving children’s lives but also to spotlight the ongoing challenges and areas requiring more focus to ensure children’s protection and welfare worldwide.
He remarked that Pakistan views children as a national treasure and remains committed to their holistic development, including access to education, healthcare, and protection, which are essential for safeguarding both their future and the nation’s progress.

Focusing on education, Mehdi drew attention to the alarming statistic that approximately 20 million children in Pakistan are currently out of school. He urged immediate action to address this issue and improve access to quality education for all children.
He also highlighted the various challenges faced by children in Pakistan, such as stunting, malnutrition, lack of access to quality education, and child labor. Mehdi called for urgent and effective implementation of laws and policies to protect children’s rights and ensure their well-being.
