ACC Chairman Naqvi Arrives in Dhaka for AGM Despite Venue Opposition

Islamabad: Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dhaka to oversee the ACC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), according to 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Upon his arrival at Dhaka Airport, Naqvi was warmly welcomed by Aminul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

During his visit, Naqvi will lead this year’s AGM, marking the first such meeting in Bangladesh after several years, despite objections from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and Oman Cricket regarding the venue.

Despite their concerns, the ACC, under Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership, decided to keep Dhaka as the venue, as the meeting coincides with the ongoing three-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, ensuring many ACC representatives would already be present in the city.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the council sent formal invitations to all member nations with a 15-day notice and provided an option for virtual attendance.

“Online meetings have become a global standard, and both ACC and ICC have conducted several such sessions in the past,” an ACC source commented.

This development follows reports last month that the schedule for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be announced in July.

Reports also suggest that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a strong contender to host the tournament, largely due to ongoing tensions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the BCCI.
