Separate Proposal For Religious Minorities Presented To Cabinet

News Desk

Islamabad: A proposal separating minorities’ affairs from religious affairs has been forwarded to the Cabinet, informed One-Man Commission on Minorities Rights Chairperson Dr Shoaib Suddle.

Speaking at a consultation organised by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) on Tuesday, human rights advocates urged all political parties to pledge in their manifestos and policies to uphold and advance the rights of religious minorities and sects.

Despite efforts to recruit more police officers from religious minorities, the special police forces intended under the 2014 Supreme Court order to defend religious minorities’ places of worship did not exist in all provinces, Dr Shoaib added.

Police Officer Abdullah stated that sensitizing officers at the constable level about the rights of all religious communities is the most efficient strategy to defend their places of worship.

Scheduled Caste Hindu community Representative Lawyer Sarwan Kumar Bheel expressed his concern over the lack of implementation of a child marriage act in Sindh.

HRCP Council member Farhatullah Babar lauded the FIA for making online blasphemy offenses non-cognizable and urged the need to ensure its implementation in true letter and spirit.
