Rains Increase Risk Of Dengue Larvae Breeding

Rawalpindi: As the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rain in the coming days, it is necessary to remain vigilant to cope with any emergency, said District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Ijaz Ahmed on Sunday.

Dr Ijaz said that the current climatic conditions are ideal for dengue larvae to breed and that the recent rains have raised the risk of mosquito breeding.

While the province and district health authorities are exerting every effort to stop the spread of dengue, no campaign could be successful without the active participation of the general public, he added.

Ahmed further said that accumulated rainwater collected in the garbage was a leading cause of dengue breeding. Meanwhile, the district administration had cancelled the holidays of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), and Health Authority staff to control the looming threat of dengue spread.

The Complete blood count (CBC) test facility has been provided to Rural Health Centres (RHC) for dengue diagnosis while the Provincial HealthMinister Dr Jamal Nasir was supervising the entire arrangement.

Dr Nasir further stated that the District Health Authority department has up to 1500 new hires to help fight dengue. He continued by saying that the finest methods for draining stagnant rainwater have been ordered for all related departments since stored rainwater is a major breeding ground for dengue.

According to Jamal, people can be protected from dengue through preventative measures, and the concerned departments have been told to stay vigilant in order to deal with the rising number of dengue cases brought on by the anticipated heavy rains.
