NCSW Held Event For Implementation Of Pro-women Legislation

Islamabad: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) organised an event titled ‘Strengthening Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women and Building Synergies’ to share the experience and expertise of NCSW with the provinces for building synergies for effective coordination and further uptake in the provincial context.It also aimed to promote collective advocacy in major areas, including countering gender-based violence (GBV) and child marriage, political party manifestos, the allocation of reserved seats for differently abled women in the Boards of the National and Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women, the Scooty Project and day care centers at public universities and public hospitals, and the celebration of national and international Women’s Day with a collective vision and goals.
It was hosted on July 12th with the support of its partner, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women (PCSWs) from every province, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, participated.
The National Media Fellowship program, the Media Monitoring System, and the preparation of National Reports for CSW were the special focus of discussion.NCSW’s legislative initiatives, including standard operating procedures for complaint redressal, mapping of laws, monitoring mechanisms for enforcement of pro-women legislation, and the child marriage bill, were discussed in detail.
NCSW Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar stated, “It is my desire to see all the Provincial Commissions on the Status of Women flourish in Pakistan. This is only possible if we strengthen them through support, coordination, and capacity building.”
