Child Labour: Two Brick Kilns Sealed
News Desk
Peshawar: The district administration on Tuesday sealed two brick kilns and arrested the managers for hiring underage children as labourers in the Sorzai area.
Meanwhile, on public complaints, the administration also sealed two godowns of coal on Inqalab Road and arrested the managers.
Similarly in 2018, a team of police and local administration sealed two brick kilns and registered cases against their owners under the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Act 2016.
The Punjab government carried out a survey in 2017 to identify children working at more than 6,000 kilns and promulgated the Punjab Prohibition of Child Labour at Brick Kilns Ordinance 2016 to curb child labour.
The key feature of the ordinance is that the kiln owner would be responsible for a child being employed as labour at his brick kiln.
