Expected Heatwaves & Strokes: Sherry Rehman Urges People Take Precautions

News Desk

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman advised the public on Tuesday to take precautions to prevent heat waves and strokes because the southern parts of the country are expected to experience extremely high temperatures.

In a series of tweets, Sherry Rehman said that the weather was likely to remain hot and dry in most of the plains of the country for the next few days.

The Federal Minister informed me that the weather is expected to remain extremely hot in Sindh and Balochistan. “The risk of heat stroke also rises due to the increasing heat. To prevent heatwaves, we have sent instructions to the provinces and relevant institutions,” she added.

Sherry stated that to avoid heat stroke, individuals are urged to take prompt and preventive action. “The residents of vulnerable communities and areas should stay in shade in the afternoon and keep a wet cloth on their heads and shoulders when they venture outside in the heat. Drink plenty of fluids, dress in lightweight, long-sleeved clothing, and steer clear of harsh sunlight,” Rehman recommended.

Senator Sherry emphasised that it is important to seek medical assistance from the closest heatwave response unit or hospital as soon as possible if one suffers excessive sweating, light-headedness, fainting, or other symptoms while it is this hot.

“Follow these basic precautions whenever temperatures rise above normal,” Minister Sherry added.
