Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of thunderstorms and rain across most districts of Punjab, beginning Friday evening and continuing through June 16.

According to the PDMA, strong winds, dust storms, and intermittent rainfall are forecast for various regions, including Lahore, Narowal, Sargodha, Jhang, Mianwali, Sialkot, and Faisalabad.

The alert follows directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who instructed district administrations to remain on high alert and take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that relevant departments have been directed to stay vigilant and respond swiftly to any emergencies that may arise due to the inclement weather.

“This upcoming spell of rain is expected to bring much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave and will likely lower temperatures across the province,” said DG Kathia.

He also urged the public to adopt safety measures during the forecast period, especially during thunderstorms. “People should avoid open areas and take shelter during lightning and strong winds,” he advised.

The PDMA further warned citizens to refrain from going outdoors during severe weather, citing risks such as lightning strikes and falling debris. “The public must take weather advisories seriously and avoid exposure to hazardous conditions,” Kathia added.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will issue updates as necessary.
