Govt Allocates Rs14.3bn for Health Sector in 2025–26 Budget

Islamabad: The federal government has allocated Rs14,343.500 million for the health sector under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2025–26, aiming to enhance the country’s healthcare infrastructure and improve disease prevention and emergency preparedness systems.

According to the official budget documents, the funding will be utilized to complete ongoing and new health initiatives with a strategic focus on disease surveillance, maternal and preventive healthcare, and critical medical facilities.

Among the major allocations, Rs4,000 million has been earmarked for the establishment of the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre in Islamabad, while Rs1,000 million has been set aside for the Prime Minister’s National Program for the Elimination of Hepatitis C.

In a move to strengthen the country’s public health surveillance system, Rs2,000 million has been allocated for the development of an Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System (IDSRS).

To improve cancer treatment facilities, the government has allocated Rs1,701 million for setting up a cancer hospital in Islamabad, with an additional Rs900 million allocated for the procurement of equipment for the same.

Moreover, Rs900 million has been designated for the establishment of a stroke intervention unit and the expansion of critical care and cardiac facilities at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the federal capital.

The significant allocation reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the national healthcare system and addressing key public health challenges across the country.
